The prime minister's spokesman says there could be a case for an inquiry into the arrest of Conservative frontbencher Damian Green.
The spokesman said he was waiting to find out the "full facts" before deciding what measures to take, and that any inquiry would depend on the police investigation into the MP not being undermined.
Christopher Galley, who passed information to the Conservative frontbencher Damian Green, said what he did was in the public interest.
The civil servant denied trying to entrap Mr Green and released a statement today defending his actions.
The commons speaker will make a statement on Wednesday, as MPs clamour for a full inquiry into why the police were allowed to search Mr Green's parliamentary office.
Interview: Neil O'May
Alex Thomson asks Neil O'May, the solicitor acting for civil servant Christopher Galley, if, given the civil servant behind the leaks is a supporter of the Conservative party, the situation is politically motivated?
